Every pregnancy, birth, parent, and baby are unique. For one, the ideal birth may be at home alone, surrounded by quiet and candlelight. For another, the perfect birth may be an elective caesarian-section in the hospital with care provided by doctors. Some may desire to exclusively breast/chest feed their babies, while others may not. The right choice is the one that you choose because it feels right for you. That’s it. My role is simply to support you in whatever decisions you make. I am not here to judge anyones choices, only to provide care, education and support that helps you to explore your desires and needs, and to uncover the steps we can take together to reach your goals.
I trust in the innate wisdom of all my clients and place you as the ultimate authority when it comes to your childbearing and feeding experiences. Though myself and other care providers have our own areas of expertise, no one has the lived experience that you do, nor will anyone care more than you about the wellbeing of yourself and your baby. I practise informed consent every step of the way with my clients, ensuring you fully understand what is being advised or recommended before agreeing. Doing so respects your autonomy and is trauma-informed, helping to promote better outcomes for you and your baby.
I aim to meet each client where they are and will take into consideration your unique identity and circumstances when designing your care plan, as well as acknowledging any systemic barriers you may face when navigating maternity care systems and/or infant feeding support. I prioritise making my care equitable, so that the specific needs of all clients are met. This can look like consideration for the intersections of your identity, such as orientation, gender, ethnicity, ability and religion, and exploring how these things shape your needs and influence your access to care. It also means a sensitivity towards economic status, which is why I offer sliding scale booking options - to meet you where you are.
I believe in working collaboratively and respectfully with you and your care team - be that with medical professionals, family members, or other support personnel. I will always centre the needs of you and your baby in any scenario and will be your advocate whenever necessary.
